DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Gold Star Watch, Geneva, dial and mvt marked for retailer Bartens & Rice of New York, 52mm, HC model mvt in sidewinder orientation in heavy 18K gold OF original case with gold cuvette, white enamel DS dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, 20J, fausses-cĂ´tes pattern nickel damascene, s#5230 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 77.4 dwt (120.4 g). Comes with a fitted box marked "P.W. Taylor, 521 Fulton St., Brooklyn, N.Y." within. An attractive high grade movement with interesting signature and the charming associated touch of gold stars surrounding the serial number. Bartens & Rice were located at 20 John St in New York City and advertised themselves in city directories as the "Sole Agents for the celebrated Star Watch Co, Geneva." We do not have an attribution of maker for this movement but notice that it bears some similarities in appearance and finish quality to early products of the Tiffany factory of Geneva.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, smudge to main plate near barrel arbor, some scattered micro-fine scratches; nearly flawless dial with few small fine scratches; excellent hands, minute with finish loss at tip; case shows little wear, some tarnish near rear hinge and rear lip, profuse fine to micro-fine scratches to rear, mild dent to band and edge of bezel at 9:30; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal. Box in fine to fair condition, few stains to top, rear paper surface is peeling up.
